Shrimp Products
The affected product in Illinois is the Waterfront Bistro brand Raw, Peeled & Deveined Tail-on shrimp, sold in 2-pound frozen bags. The recall applies to shrimp with the lot codes BMS24012.
This recall is part of a larger action encompassing over 83,800 bags distributed to various retailers nationwide, including Albertsons and Price Chopper chains. This follows earlier recalls of shrimp from the same manufacturer at Kroger, Mariano's, and Walmart stores.
Safety Concern: Risk of Cesium-137 Contamination
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) states the shrimp may have been "packaged, prepared, or held under insanitary conditions" and could be contaminated with Cesium-137, a man-made radioactive isotope.
The primary health risk from consuming food contaminated with low doses of Cesium-137 over time is an elevated risk of cancer.

The FDA confirmed the presence of Cesium-137 in at least one sample after U.S Customs and Border Protection initially detected potential radioactive material in shipping containers at several U.S. ports.
